DONS PREPARING ‘MEGA OFFER’ FOR ZAC BAILEY

Essendon is preparing a “mega offer” to Brisbane star Zac Bailey that would make him the highest-paid player in Bombers history, according to AFL Media’s Callum Twomey.

Bailey is set to be one of the biggest 2026 free agents. But the gun forward, who last week received his maiden All-Australian blazer, is reportedly already in Essendon sights.

It’s believed the Bombers’ offer could be around a six-year deal at $1.3 million per season, though it’s more likely to come in 2026.

“Essendon is preparing a mega offer to try and lure Zac Bailey,” Twomey said on Gettable.

“My belief is it will be six-plus years around the $1.3 million mark across those seasons. It would be the most lucrative contract in Bombers history, should he sign it.

“I expect this to be more as a free agent (next year), but obviously there’s going to be some trade negotiations in a couple of weeks coming up.

“But this is more around getting the picture that the Bombers are interested. A number of clubs will be chasing him at that sort of rate.”

Meanwhile the Lions, like they’ve done with their upcoming free agents in the past, are expected to try and lock down Bailey this off-season.

“Brisbane likes to get its free agency deals done early, it has shown that to be part of its MO across recent years. We saw Cam Rayner sign in last off-season heading into his free agency year,” Twomey added.

“Brisbane will be pushing to re-sign him as soon as possible. In his previous two contracts he signed in December and February, so I’m sure that will be the same timeline he will be looking to kick off those talks.”

Meanwhile Gettable also reported Port Adelaide is set to land Will Brodie in a minor trade with Fremantle, and sign Jacob Wehr as an unrestricted free agent from GWS.

Brodie, who is contracted for another year, played his best AFL season in 2022 when new Port Adelaide coach Josh Carr was the midfield coach at the Dockers.

SAINTS TARGETS UNDERGO MEDICALS

St Kilda targets Jack Silvagni and Liam Ryan have both reportedly completed medicals at Moorabbin as the club continues its aggressive recruiting drive.

Nine’s Eddie McGuire revealed on Footy Classified that Silvagni underwent a medical at the Saints on Tuesday with confirmation on Wednesday he will sign with the Saints.

It’s believed St Kilda had the best offer on the table for the free agent at around five years and as much as $850,000 per season, surpassing Collingwood and the Bulldogs’ four-year offers.

It was confirmed last week that Silvagni would depart the Blues and the hefty Saints offer is likely to land the club an end-of-first-round pick as compensation.

Combined with a first-round pick for Tom De Koning it is a strong haul for Michael Voss’ club.

Meanwhile AFL Media and the West Australian report Ryan is set to have a medical at the Saints on Wednesday.

The Eagles high-flyer, who requested a trade to the St Kilda last week, is likely to join the club on a three-year deal.

As Ryan is contracted at West Coast for next season, he would need to be acquired via trade. The Saints hold picks 7, 43 and 58 in the 2025 National Draft.

St Kilda is set to land Tom De Koning and has been linked to moves for Leek Aleer and Sam Flanders.
