If you’re chronically online, you’ve likely seen new Canadian Saturday Night Live (SNL) cast member Veronika Slowikowska on your feed.

On Tuesday, the legendary sketch comedy show announced five new cast members ahead of its 51st season.

The actress and comedian, who you may know as @veronika_iscool on Instagram and TikTok, was the only Canadian who made the cut for the new season.

“Dream come true 🥲 see you Saturdays,” Slowikowska shared on Instagram.

She follows in the footsteps of other iconic Canadian SNL cast members, including Dan Aykroyd, Phil Hartman, Norm MacDonald, Mike Myers, and Martin Short.

Slowikowska is set to go live from New York on Oct. 4, so let’s get to know the burgeoning actress and comedian.

From Toronto comedy troupe to SNL cast member

The 29-year-old hails from Barrie, Ont. and graduated from the Canadian Film Centre Actor’s Conservatory in 2020.

She’s currently based in New York City and Toronto (according to her social media bios), but got her start in Toronto’s comedy scene as part of the musical comedy troupe My Chemical Bromance.

In an interview with film and theatre publication Close-Up Culture in 2019, Slowikowska gushed about the comedy scene in Toronto and mentioned SNL.

“The Toronto comedy scene is freakin’ amazing! I kind of love how we’re far enough from New York or L.A. that no one has the pressure of getting on SNL or moving to Hollywood,” she told James Prestridge.

Little did she know that she would soon be gracing the famed stage as a cast member.

Going viral on TikTok and Instagram

The first TikTok I saw of Slowikowska in 2023 was a sketch comedy video featuring her roommate and frequent collaborator, Kyle Chase, explaining how to shop online. He turns around and accidentally grazes her chest, and they both break out into song. I immediately saved that video to look at on rainy days.

It’s one of her most popular videos on TikTok, garnering 8.6 million views since it was posted. It’s a small taste of the absurdist, unserious and random humour Slowikowska has become known and loved for.

The comedian and Chase had fans hooked on a series of sketch comedy videos that spanned from 2023 to 2025, in which they played roommates in a seemingly never-ending situationship.

What started as a cute and silly will-they-won’t-they romcom storyline — with Slowikowska playing the eccentric, in-your-face love interest, and Chase playing the straight man — quickly snowballed into wacky and nonsensical season finales that involved wizards, a pregnancy, and a temporary recasting of Slowikowska while she took a much-needed vacation.

Like many comedians, Slowikowska and Chase eventually created their own podcast called “nevermind,” where they “discuss some seriously groundbreaking subjects and laugh and talk and also have conversations on, nevermind.”

As seen on TV

You may also recognize the 29-year-old for her work in film and TV. She had a recurring role on the first two seasons of What We Do in the Shadows, playing college student and vampire hunter, Shanice.

She most recently appeared in popular comedian Shane Gillis’ Netflix sitcom, Tires, and starred in the Amazon Prime Video and Hulu co-production Davey & Jonesie’s Locker.

While you’re waiting for her SNL debut, you can check out more of Slowikowska’s work on TikTok or Instagram.
