A Houston player matched all five white balls in Wednesday’s Powerball drawing, turning a $1 million prize into $2 million with Power Play.

HOUSTON — While no one hit the record-setting jackpot Wednesday night, one lucky Houston player is still celebrating after winning a $2 million prize in the Powerball drawing.

According to the Texas Lottery, the winning ticket was sold at Barri 140088, located at 601 North Cesar Chavez Blvd. in Houston. The ticket matched all five white balls — 3, 16, 29, 61, and 69 — but not the Powerball number, 22. Because the player added the Power Play multiplier option, their prize doubled from $1 million to $2 million.

The Houston winner was the highest Texas prize earner in Wednesday’s drawing.

Powerball jackpot climbs

The Houston win came as the Powerball jackpot swelled to an estimated $1.4 billion for Wednesday’s drawing. That makes it the fourth-largest Powerball jackpot ever and the sixth-largest U.S. lottery jackpot overall.

Demand for tickets was so overwhelming that the Powerball website briefly crashed around the time of the drawing.

No one has won the grand prize since May 31, and Wednesday’s 41st consecutive drawing without a jackpot winner is just one short of the all-time record set last year.

Odds of winning

The odds of hitting the Powerball jackpot are one in 292.2 million. The odds of matching all five white balls for a $1 million prize are 1 in 11.7 million. With the Power Play option, that prize can increase to $2 million.

Overall, the odds of winning any Powerball prize are 1 in 24.87.

When is the next drawing?

Powerball drawings take place live every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET. Tickets cost $2 per play and are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The jackpot will roll over to Saturday’s drawing, giving players another shot at a billion-dollar payout.
