The COP30 Presidency and the IEA – in close partnership with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat and the UN Secretary General’s Climate Action Team – are convening a series of High-Level Energy Transition Dialogues ahead of COP30 in Belém, Brazil, in November.

The dialogues bring together energy and climate decision makers from around the world to help shape the energy-related activities, outputs and outcomes of COP30. After an initial dialogue in Brussels in June 2025, this second dialogue – hosted in Addis Ababa by the African Union Commission along with COP30 President-Designate Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago and IEA Deputy Executive Director Mary Burce Warlick – will explore how COP30 can facilitate the implementation of recent global energy commitments, with a focus on accelerating progress towards African countries’ energy goals.
