For the second day in a row, a passenger has gone overboard from a BC Ferries sailing.

The company says the passenger was recovered and is being transferred to a Coast Guard hovercraft.

The ferry, the Spirit of British Columbia, also deployed a rescue boat for the passenger.

The ferry left Swartz Bay and was heading to Tsawwassen when it stopped, and BC Ferries says it will be delayed arriving as a result.

The BC Ferries tracker shows the Spirit of BC had just passed Mayne Island, where it stopped.

This comes just one day after a man went overboard on a BC Ferries sailing, shortly after the ferry had left Tsawwassen.

On Thursday, the passenger received minor injuries after going overboard.

BC Ferries said the passenger was recovered by its crew members and was taken to a BC Emergency Health Services ambulance that was waiting on shore.

BCEHS says one patient was taken to hospital in serious condition.

In an update after 8 p.m., BC Ferries says the incident caused the delay of its 7 p.m. sailing from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay by about 62 minutes. BC Ferries also said customers should expect a delay for the 9 p.m. sailing from Swartz Bay.
