One of the victims son’s is recovering in the hospital.
EDINA, Minn. — Two mothers are dead after a St. Paul man led police on a chase and crashed.
“She was funny, she always knew how to make people laugh that was my friend,” said Xylus McCoy.
Liberty Borg and Marisa Casebolt were killed in that Thursday morning crash. Borg’s son was in the car and is recovering in the hospital.
McCoy met Borg in high school, and they’ve been friends ever since.
“She was energetic, like she was friendly, like she made no enemies, everybody loved her, she was just full of high energy, she was very respectful to people, she didn’t bring off bad energy. She was the life of the party.”
Edward Tiki Arrington, 45, was the man police were chasing. He is also known to authorities as Troy Mike Payton and faces a charge of carjacking resulting in death at the federal level, a crime that is eligible for the death penalty.
McCoy also knew Casebolt who he met through Borg.
“She was a real character, she smiled, she was really fun as well,” he said. “She had a goal, she wanted to be the best mom she could be and she was doing so good.”
More friends have shared an outpouring of support after Thursday’s crash.
“I just know I won’t be able to get anymore of those pictures for memories anymore now that she’s gone,” Taylor Henley said of Marisa. “I just hope that she’s looking down on us from up above.”
“I just wish this day never happened,” Henley continued. “I hate the fact that this guy took your life away.”
Marisa’s sister, Blaze, said she was a great mother who loved her kids.
In a statement, Blaze said, “Marisa was such a bright soul. She was always smiling and brought light to everyone around her. She was one of the strongest pieces holding our family together, and we are still in shock and deep grief.”
Blaze said this was a senseless tragedy that took two mothers from their kids.
“It stole my sister’s life and created a lasting ripple effect of sadness and grief for all of her family and friends,” Blaze said in her statement. “More than anger, what I feel most is an overwhelming heartache. My deepest sorrow is for my sister’s partner and their babies, who now face the unimaginable task of learning to navigate life without her.”
McCoy lost another close friend a few weeks ago. He said Borg was helping him get through it.
“She just brought light to the darkness, man, and she wasn’t negative, she was always positive, there’s not a single negative thing you could say about Liberty,” McCoy said.
He said he’ll miss their conversations and is heartbroken that she and Marisa are gone.
