Liverpool are plotting another move to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi in the near future, according to the Daily Mail.
The reigning Premier League champions are reportedly planning to return for the England international in either January or after the season, when Guehi becomes a free agent.
Liverpool saw their pursuit of the 25-year-old centre-half collapse during the final hours of the summer window, as Palace were unable to sign a replacement in time.
The Eagles insisted Guehi stay at least until the next transfer window after their pursuit of Brighton defender Igor fell through, with the Brazilian eventually signing for West Ham on deadline day.
A deal was in place for Guehi’s move to Liverpool for a fee of £35m, which Palace are unlikely to secure in January, as the defender will have just six months left on his contract.
Guehi, who was pushing strongly for a departure to Anfield, is unlikely to pen an extension with the Eagles, whom he joined from Chelsea in the summer of 2021.
Liverpool Set to Pursue Marc Guehi Again
According to the Daily Mail, Guehi’s dramatic transfer saga has not changed Liverpool’s stance on sealing a move – the Reds still really like the England international and want him to play for the club.
The Anfield side are said to be planning to sign the 25-year-old defender in the near future and are eyeing an even cheaper January deal, after Palace called off their £35m agreement at the very last minute.
If Guehi is not sold during the winter transfer window, Palace are set to lose the former Chelsea defender for free after the season, just 18 months after they rejected a reported £70m bid from Tottenham.
Guehi has remained a key player for Palace this season amid his transfer saga, playing 90 minutes in all of the club’s six games across all competitions, overseeing three wins and three draws.
The ‘world-class’ 25-year-old also helped Oliver Glasner’s side qualify for the Conference League and win the Community Shield, just months after securing the club’s first major trophy – the FA Cup – with victory over Manchester City in May.
