The Minneapolis Fire Department said several of the buildings have partially collapsed.
MINNEAPOLIS — Crews are working to put out a multi-alarm fire in Northeast Minneapolis that has damaged at least four buildings.Â
According to the Minneapolis Fire Department, firefighters were called to the 1500 block of Central Avenue Northeast around 4 a.m. with a report of a two-story commercial building on fire.Â
Officials say this has been a mostly defensive operation with fire crews working to extinguish the fire on the exterior of the buildings.Â
Assistant Chief Melanie Rucker said obstructions and low water pressure impacted firefighters’ ability to respond.Â
“Some of the hydrants were dead… not giving us enough water pressure for as many aerial ladders that we have,” Assistant Chief Rucker told KARE 11.Â
Additionally, discarded tires, surrounding railroads, and proximity to other buildings caused challenges for firefighters.Â
The Minneapolis Fire Department reports the impacted buildings are abandoned. Fire crews are expected to remain on scene for several hours to make sure the fire does not spread.Â
No injuries have been reported at this time.
