The US’ special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, said Russia’s drone and rocket attack on Ukraine, the largest of its kind since Moscow’s large-scale invasion of its neighbor, indicates a lack of interest in diplomacy on Moscow’s part.

“Russia appears to be escalating with the largest attack of the war hitting offices of the [Ukrainian] Cabinet in Kyiv,” Kellogg posted on his X account, adding the attack “was not a signal that Russia wants to diplomatically end the war.”

09/07/2025September 7, 2025Ukraine says Russian oil pipeline in Bryansk targeted

The commander of Ukraine‘s drone forces reported a strike on the Druzhba oil pipeline in Russia‘s Bryansk region.

Robert Brovdi said on the Telegram messaging app, the strike had caused “comprehensive fire damage.”

Brovdi’s post was accompanied with infrared footage filmed at a distance, showing explosions and then billowing smoke.

There has been no immediate comment from Russian authorities and the veracity of the report cannot be independently verified.

Ukraine has in recent months targeted Russian energy infrastructure amid Russia’s continued full-scale invasion.

Strikes on the oil pipeline — which delivers Russian oil to Hungary and Slovenia —— have caused disruptions in recent weeks.

Ahead of the weekend, France hosted “coalition of the willing” hybrid talks involving European, NATO and non-NATO allies — with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attending in person.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced that 26 countries pledged to contribute towards Ukraine’s post-war security; however, Russia is in firm opposition to any foreign troop presence.

Germany pledged to contribute to security guarantees but stopped short of promising further military commitments.

US President Donald Trump was part of a joint call with European leaders on Thursday and called on Europe to stop buying Russian oil, saying that it was funding Moscow’s war.

The European Commission has proposed legislation to phase out EU imports of Russian oil and gas entirely by 2028.

Trump also said he was planning on speaking to Putin again soon.

09/07/2025September 7, 2025Ukraine says Russia aerial strikes the largest since beginning of invasion

Officials in Ukraine said Russia‘s overnight bombardment was the largest since the war began.

Ukraine’s air force said that 805 drones and 13 missiles were fired, but air defenses managed to shoot down 747 drones and 4 missiles.

The air force said that there had been nine confirmed missile hits and 56 drone strikes in locations across Ukraine.

The building that was damaged in Kyiv, is home to Ukraine’s Cabinet and is where various ministers have their offices.

“For the first time, the government building was damaged by an enemy attack, including the roof and upper floors,” said Ukraine’s Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

“We will restore the buildings, but lost lives cannot be returned,” Svyrydenko said.

The attacks come amid efforts to bring Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russia’s Vladimir Putin to negotiate an end to the war.

Zelenskyy has said he is ready to meet Putin, who invited the Ukrainian leader to Moscow for talks. Zelenskyy rejected the invite and said Putin could come to Kyiv.
