The incident began around 7:45 a.m., when officers responded to a home for a family violence call Niagara Regional Police said in a news release Monday.

“Prior to police arrival, the male left the residence in a white Ford pick-up truck and was believed to be in possession of a firearm. The male made statements that raised concern for his personal safety, the safety of the community, and the safety of responding officers.”
Shortly after 9 a.m. police said they were looking for a man believed to be in a white Ford Ranger in the area of Concession Road 2 and Centre Road. About 40 minutes later they said in a post on X that they believed that the man was on foot and asked people to shelter in place and not answer their doors.
They said they were looking for a 38-year-old white man, standing around six feet tall, with a beard and shaggy hair.

Members of Niagara’s Emergency Task Unit eventually caught up with the man and negotiated “a safe and peaceful surrender,” police said.
Shortly before 10:30 a.m., police announced they had arrested the man.
“No ongoing threat to public safety. Police remain in area,” they said in their post.
