Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a man after multiple incidences of rock-throwing from highway overpasses in Niagara Region over the summer.

Police had been investigating after rocks were thrown at moving vehicles from above several highways and the roadside between June and August.

The incidents had been reported on Hwy. 406 between Westchester and Fourth avenues in St. Catharines, the QEW near Mountain Road in Niagara Falls, and Hwy. 58 by Pine Street in Thorold.

On Monday, OPP said Ammar Al-Zubaidi, 48, of St. Catharines was arrested and charged with nine counts of mischief endangering life.

He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Catharines on Tuesday.

In July, OPP laid charges against two youths in connection with separate highway rock-throwing incidents in Markham.
