More than 3,000 students have received second-round offers for college courses from the Central Applications Office today.
A total of 3,370 places were offered to 3,024 CAO applicants in this round and it is the first offer of a college place for 1,226 applicants.
Level 8 offers were made to 2,364 students while 1,006 applicants recieved Level 7/6 offers.
Of the Level 8 offers, 44% of students received their first preference course, while 78% of applicants who were made level 7/6 offers received their first choice.
Applicants who received an offer today have until 3pm on Wednesday to accept it.
Head of communications for CAO, Eileen Keleghan, is advising applicants to carefully consider their options.
“Many of the applicants receiving a second-round offer today may have already accepted an offer in Round One, and it is important that they take the time to decide between these courses and inform CAO before the reply date of this Wednesday 10 September at 3pm if they wish to accept the new offer,” she said.
“Accepting the new offer will automatically cancel a previous acceptance,” Ms Keleghan added.
If this is an applicant’s first offer, they can choose to accept this offer and this will not prevent them from receiving a higher preference course in a later offer round if they are deemed eligible.
Ms Keleghan said that most offers have been issued at this stage and this may be the only offer that students will receive.
“For those who have been unsuccessful in receiving an offer (or their desired offer) there are many options, including further education courses which offer qualifications as well as opportunities to progress to third level; apprenticeship schemes; reapplying through CAO next year; or repeating the Leaving Certificate,” she explained.
Applicants can check if they have received a Round Two offer by logging in to their CAO account using the ‘My Application’ facility.
The points charts will be available to view on the CAO website from 4pm today.
The CAO Available Places facility remains open, with approximately 140 courses with available places advertised.
