While much of the attention in this part of the world was on Ireland’s disastrous 2-1 loss to Armenia last night, England quietly produced an impressive performance in their World Cup qualifier against Serbia.

Thomas Tuchel’s side came into that game under a bit of pressure, having had some questionable displays up to this point in the campaign despite their 100 per cent winning record. However, they would go on to run out as 5-0 winners in Belgrade to cement their position at the top of the group.

England are now well on their way to securing qualification for the World Cup with a few games to spare.

Roy Keane Taken Aback By Ian Wright’s ‘Final’ Comment After England Win

Qualification for next summer’s World Cup was never in doubt for England, with a group featuring the likes of Serbia, Albania, and Latvia unlikely to present a fierce challenge.

Their concentration will quickly switch towards the tournament itself, with Tuchel brought in with the presumed aim of finally getting the English over the line in major finals.

Speaking on ITV, Roy Keane would praise England’s performance in Serbia. In saying that, he would throw a cheeky dig at fellow pundit Ian Wright when he began to prematurely discuss the prospect of the nation reaching the final in North America next summer (you can see the moment from 2:30 in the clip below).

Keane: What [Morgan Rogers] does is give the manager a problem and a brilliant option. When you get the opportunity and you perform like that, you’re sending a message to the manager that you’re going to find it hard to leave me out. That’s all these players can do.

Wright: That’s what we need. If we are going to get to a final, and lets say it’s Spain…

Keane: You’re already in the final are you?!

Wright: No Roy! What I’m trying to say is you’ve got to have this level of competition.

Keane: Players that can make a difference.

Wright: Thank you. That’s what Thomas Tuchel is going to say, ‘he’s doing alright so I’m going to keep him in there’.

Roy Keane knew exactly what Ian Wright was trying to say there, but it’s good to see that he is keeping his mate on his toes in the ITV studio.

England will no doubt be among the favourites to reach the final of next summer’s World Cup, although they still have quite a bit to prove when it comes to their track record of overcoming top ranked nations in major tournaments.
