The tram was travelling north at Surfers Paradise this morning when the first and second carriages came off the track.
A light pole appears to have speared through the second carriage.
The driver was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
It’s believed there were no passengers in the carriages at the time.
Motorists have been warned to expect lengthy delays in the area.
