Mathias Kvistgaarden’s early strike was cancelled out by Wright in the 96th minute, ending a run of three consecutive away victories for the Canaries.

Coventry started completely dominant, controlling possession and creating chances at will. First Wright’s close-range effort was blocked by Harry Darling, before an Ephron Mason-Clark diving header bounced off the post and away.

That control continued until the 18-minute mark, but against the run of play Norwich made their first chance pay. Jakov Medic stepped in to find a pinpoint ball for Kvistgaarden, who controlled well and found the bottom corner with his deflected strike.

Frank Lampard’s men went in search of an equaliser, peppering the visiting box again in similarly dangerous fashion. But Darling and then Medic denied Jack Rudoni, helping their side into half-time with a slender lead in tact.

The hosts struggled to keep the pressure on after the break, a bitty period aiding Norwich as they attempted to hold onto three vital points. When Mason-Clark eventually found an opening he fired straight at Vladan Kovacevic.

Wright then should have levelled things when he met Milan van Ewijk’s cross ahead of Kovacevic in the 62nd minute, diverting the ball away from the Serbian but into a disappointed home crowd.

The same man then sliced another chance wide from inside the box, before a series of injuries slowed the game down and enraged those frustrated Coventry fans.

Kovacevic’s reflexes were required when a corner almost forced the issue as the clock ticked toward full-time, first pushing away when a corner was almost forced home, then clawing a cross clear after Wright and Brandon Thomas-Asante somehow failed to tap in.

Ellis Simms then appeared destined to score when his flick span across the face of goal, but his team weren’t to be denied in the end. Three minutes from the end of the referee’s nine-minute extension, Wright finally got the goal he’d been close to all afternoon, forcing over the line to City despair.

Both sides pushed for a winner but were made to settle for a draw, with Wrexham up next for Norwich at Carrow Road.
