Training camps across the NHL have yet to begin, yet former Edmonton Oilers winger Corey Perry may already be on the shelf.
The 40-year-old was injured during an on-ice incident at the Los Angeles Kings practice facility, according to an original report from the Mayor’s Manor blog. Following the incident along the boards, Perry was apparently taken off the ice in a wheelchair.
On Saturday morning, the Kings announced that Perry underwent successful knee surgery, and it out for 6-8 weeks.

Perry signed a one-year deal with the Kings on July 1. The deal pays him $2 million in base salary, but could be as high as $4 million depending on bonuses.
More than half of Perry’s bonuses were tied to attainable games played targets. He is set to receive $500,000 for playing 10 NHL games with the Kings, and he would get another $250,000 every time he hits 20 GP, 30 GP, 40 GP and 50 GP.
The rest of his $500,000 in bonuses were tied to the Kings winning playoff rounds, something they haven’t been able to do since being crowned Stanley Cup champions back in 2014.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound winger has been remarkably healthy for the past number of NHL seasons. Perry hasn’t missed a prolonged stretch due to injury since the 2018-19 season, when he was sidelined for most of that campaign after undergoing knee surgery.
Perry was set to enter this NHL season with his seventh team. He’s been to the Stanley Cup Finals in five of the last six seasons, with four different franchises (Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens, Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Oilers). Perry’s team has lost in each of those series, although he still has a Cup ring from 2007 with the Anaheim Ducks.
The Peterborough, Ontario native was clutch for the Oilers in the playoffs last year, scoring 10 goals and adding four assists in 22 games. He also led the NHL playoffs with five power play tallies.
Perry enters this NHL season as the league’s second-oldest player, behind only Colorado Avalanche defenceman Brent Burns.
