A Status Yellow wind warning comes into effect for three counties tonight, with strong winds expected to lead to difficult travelling conditions.

Met Éireann has issued the warning to counties Kerry, Clare and Galway between 9pm tonight and 6am on Monday mornings due to strong and gusty westerly winds which could also lead to the displacement of debris and loose objects.

Some heavy, possibly thundery showers, are expected this afternoon in the west and northwest of the country, with a mix of sunny spells and showers on the way elsewhere as winds strengthen into the evening.

Highest temperatures of 13 to 19 degrees are expected, dropping to lows of 10 to 13 degrees during a wet and windy night.

Today’s News in 90 Seconds – Sunday, September 14

Met Éireann has said Atlantic coasts will be “noticeably windy” with conditions reaching gale force along Atlantic coasts.

Widespread showers will continue into Monday morning, with some turning heavy and thundery at times, especially in the north and northwest where spot flooding is possible before showers ease into the evening.

Highs of 13 to 16 degrees are expected before dropping to lows of 9 to 12 degrees overnight.

Met Éireann expects the conditions over the coming week will be “unsettled” with strong winds and spells of heavy rain and showers at times.

Further outbreaks of rain are expected on Tuesday as temperatures hit highs of 14 to 17 degrees, while Wednesday will start dry with some brighter spells mixed with showers and blustery winds as temperatures hit highs of 15 to 18 degrees.

A mostly dry, bright start is expected on Thursday with further isolated showers.

Met Éireann added there is “increased uncertainty” for the forecast on Friday but that current indications suggest “a dry start with spells of showery rain moving in from the southwest by midmorning.”
