The Gist

Kate Hudson attended Warner Brother’s 77th Primetime Emmy Awards Nominees Celebration in Beverley Hills on September 13.

She opted for a classic silk slipdress in butter yellow that echoed her iconic How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days dress… but she added a daring twist with a push-up bustier-style neckline.

Hudson previously nodded to the iconic dress with a costume in Running Point.

There are a few movie dresses that are nothing short of legendary—costumes that broke into the fashion world and changed it for good. Keira Knightley‘s impossibly beautiful emerald silk slipdress from Atonement. Alicia Silverstone‘s enviable red Alaïa number from Clueless. Jennifer Garner’s playful striped party dress from 13 Going On 30. And, of course, Kate Hudson‘s butter yellow slipdress from How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Well, fashion fans, get ready for a strong dose of nostalgia—because Hudson just stepped out in a dress that instantly recalled that iconic yellow dress.

Attending Warner Brother’s 77th Primetime Emmy Awards Nominees Celebration in Beverley Hills on September 13, Hudson donned a simple floor length slipdress in the perfect shade of butter yellow. You know, the shade that immediately sets off Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain” in your head.

Styled by Sophie Lopez, Hudson put a modern spin on her iconic look. This slipdress featured a new textured bustier-style neckline—an update from the cowl neck of the OG. While Andy may have worn a very expensive diamond choker in the film, Hudson wore the dress with minimal jewelry, opting for delicate diamond studs and a few rings. She wore her blonde hair down in a center part in a big bouncy blow out, tossed over one shoulder. She completed the look with a black clutch and beige pointed toe heels.

This isn’t the first time Hudson has rocked a butter yellow number in a knowing nod to her beloved 2003 rom-com. Just last year, she wore a yellow Sandro suit in her Netflix show Running Point. As the costume designer Salvador Pérez told Tudum, it was indeed an Easter egg. “The suit is obviously a nod, but that butter-yellow suit almost didn’t get on because it’s the [same color as the] yellow dress from How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” he said. “Kate’s like, ‘I don’t know.’ And we’re like, ‘But it’s so fabulous!’”

Sabrina Carpenter also recently paid homage to the dress with a yellow minidress on her 25th birthday.

Earlier this year, Hudson reminisced about making the film more than 20 years ago. “It was truly an amazing experience,” she said to Vanity Fair. “And Matthew just brought it. And he always does.”

She added, “With Matthew and I, it is just a very similar type of joie de vivre,” she said, adding, “We love life, we lead with energy, very competitive by nature, we’re competitive with each other, very flirtatious, not afraid to be flirtatious.”
