Met Éireann have issued a status yellow weather warning for Donegal and two other counties in the North-West as a spell of heavy rain is expected on Monday.

The national weather forecaster is predicting heavy showers and prolonged periods of rain across Monday.

Difficult travelling conditions and poor visibility on roads, as well as localised flooding are expected.

The warning comes into effect from 5am on Monday morning, and will be in effect until 5pm on the same day in counties Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim.

Elsewhere, status yellow warnings for high winds are in place today and tomorrow further down the west coast of the country, in counties Galway, Mayo, Clare and Kerry.
