Former tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald approached Fianna Fáil presidential candidate Jim Gavin about running for a seat in the European Parliament for Fine Gael in advance of the last elections.
The former Fine Gael deputy leader said she “had a chat” with the former Dublin GAA manager in late 2023 about whether he would consider running to become an MEP.
