Five men were injured in a daylight shooting in Minneapolis, with one facing life-threatening injuries.

MINNEAPOLIS — Five men were injured in a broad daylight shooting in south Minneapolis on Monday morning.

One of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries, according to Police Chief Brian O’Hara.

The shooting happened near Lake Street East and Stevens Avenue South at about 11:10 a.m. Police said they found two separate sets of gunshell casings at the nearby Midtown Greenway and at the I-35W & Lake Street Metro Transit Station. The transit station is located between the northbound and southbound lanes of the highway. Chief O’Hara said it was unclear if there was more than one gunman and if they were on foot or in a car.

Chief O’Hara said the man with life-threatening injuries was found on the Midtown Greenway. Officers discovered another man on the Greenway, along with two men in the transit station. They suffered injuries that aren’t believed to be life-threatening, according to Chief O’Hara. A fifth man had minor injuries and refused medical help.

Chief O’Hara said the area has issues with crime and drug use. He said the intersection is cleaned twice daily, but remains covered with garbage.

Earlier, KARE 11’s Heidi Wigdahl reported that a man had heard Monday’s shooting and “just started running,” and said he almost got hit.

The exit ramp nearby on I-35W has been closed for the police investigation.

The shooting comes just weeks after a shooter opened fire on students inside Annunciation Church, killing two children and injuring 21 others.
