Tributes have poured in for Mark McConnell who died unexpectedly remembered as a great man with a great sense of humour.

He was the adored dad of Érin, Fionn, Fiadh and Caragh, much loved son of Ray and Sylvia (nee Mason), loving brother of Kate Ahearne, Sally and Jane McConnell and Mark’s much loved partner Mary O’Neill.

He will be deeply missed by his heartbroken children, father, mother, grandmother Joan and grandson of the late Dick Mason, James and Grace McConnell, brother-in-law Shane Ahearne, Sally’s partner Gordon and Jane’s partner Alex, nieces Lily-Mae and Zoey, nephews Darragh and Callan, the mother of Mark’s children Jemma O’Donnell, aunts, uncles, relatives, neighbours and many friends.

Funeral Arrangements:

Lying in repose at Aidan Walsh & Sons Funeral Home, Cappoquin on Monday evening July 21st from 5.00 pm to 7.00 pm.

Funeral Mass on Tuesday July 22nd at 12.00 noon in St. Mary’s Church Cappoquin.

Followed by burial in St. Declan’s Cemetery, Cappoquin.

Heartfelt messages have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and fondly remembered Mark, with one mourner writing,

“I had the honour of serving with Mark in the army in Clonmel, and I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing. He had a great sense of humour, and we shared many laughs during our time together. He’ll be remembered with respect. My sincere condolences to all his family and friends.”

Another message said, “Our deepest sympathy to Ray and the extended McConnell family on the passing of Mark. He was such a kind and friendly person who will be sadly missed by his family and his many friends. May he now rest in peace.”

“I’m so shocked to hear this news. Mark was a great man. I’m devastated and so sad for Ray Sylvia sally his sister, and his beautiful children. There are no words. I’m thinking of you all very much at this time. Rest easy mark,” another person said.

“Sincere condolences to Marks family, partner and his adored children. He was so proud of and spoke about often in the gym. Mark was a great coach. I have been going to Mark since the Tourin days. I will miss the chats and my weekly pt sessions. He really was excellent at his profession. Sleep tight Mark – you will be greatly missed by a lot of people! Thanks for all your guidance and encouragement,” another tribute said.
