For the past week, Prince Harry has been on a run of good press like he hasn’t seen since the Oprah interview. Last week, he spent four days in the U.K., where he paid his respects to the late Queen Elizabeth, appeared at multiple charity events, and reunited with his father for the first time in 19 months. Harry then made his way to Ukraine, where he honored victims of the country’s war with Russia and promoted the work of his Invictus Games Foundation, which supports veterans wounded in combat.
In a glowing Guardian profile pegged to his Ukraine trip, Harry seemed to be in good spirits about his relationship to his home country. While there are a couple good pieces of intel in the interview (Harry says his “bony ass” prevents him from riding a bike; he is apparently a “folk hero” in Ukraine), the juiciest bits happened when he circled back to his U.K. visit.
“Parts of the British press want to believe that I am miserable, but I’m not. I am very happy with who I am and I like the life that I live,” Harry said. “I have certainly had to deal with some very stressful events over the last four years. There has been the uncertainty and stress of the litigation and finding out certain things that have really, really hurt.”
That being said, when asked if he would like to spend more time in the U.K. and maybe even bring his children, Harry was optimistic. “Yes, I would,” he told the paper. “This week has definitely brought that closer.” Harry declined to speak much about King Charles, who was diagnosed with cancer in February 2024, but noted that in the coming year, “the focus really has to be on my dad.”
Harry also addressed his bombshell memoir, Spare, which detailed much of the familial tension that arose when Harry decided to marry Meghan Markle. “[Speaking out] annoys some people and it goes against the narrative. The book? It was a series of corrections to stories already out there. One point of view had been put out, and it needed to be corrected,” Harry said, adding, “I don’t believe that I aired my dirty laundry in public. It was a difficult message, but I did it in the best way possible. My conscience is clear.”
You can kind of tell that he’s feeling himself, right? This is the vibe of a guy who is riding high off a well-received British-charity tour, a long-awaited reunion with his dad, and a trip to a country where he seems to be universally beloved. As if things couldn’t get any better for Harry, today is his 41st birthday, and his wife posted a hot photo of him to celebrate. What more could a guy ask for?
