Eight people were injured in a shooting Monday night, including four who suffered serious wounds. A shooting earlier left five wounded, one critically.

MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis police are looking for suspects in two mass shootings that erupted on the city’s near south side Monday, leaving 13 people injured.

The latest shooting occurred around 10 p.m. at a homeless encampment at East Lake Street and South 28th Avenue. Eight people are recovering from gunshot wounds, with four described as being in serious condition.

Minneapolis mayor Jacob Frey arrived at the shooting scene and vowed that the city will clear the encampment after the investigation concludes on Wednesday morning. This encampment is on private property, and the city of Minneapolis filed documents to sue Hamoudi Sabri, the property owner, after he refused to clear it last week.

“This is an open danger. The neighborhood deserves better,” Frey said. “We will be clearing this encampment immediately after the crime scene has been investigated and taken care of. If [Sabri] wants to sue us, he can.”

Hamoudi Sabri, the property owner, previously told KARE 11 that a possible lawsuit from the City Council was a setback, “but it also shows the urgency of building a plan that treats people with dignity instead of pushing them from block to block.”

Earlier Monday, another mass shooting occurred near the intersection of East Lake Street and Stevens Avenue South around 11:10 a.m. Five men are recovering from injuries, one of which is considered life-threatening.

Police said they found two separate sets of gunshell casings at the nearby Midtown Greenway and on the walkway near the I-35W & Lake Street Metro Transit Station. The transit station is located between the northbound and southbound lanes of the highway. No arrests have been made and Chief O’Hara said due to conflicting stories, it was unclear if there was more than one gunman and if they were on foot or in a car.

Police have not arrested a suspect in either shooting as of Tuesday morning.Â
