Mikel Arteta has made one change to our side for our first taste of Champions League action this season, with Declan Rice coming into the team to face Athletic Club.

The England midfielder was rested for our 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, but returns to replace the injured Martin Odegaard.

With the Norwegian missing, Gabriel dons the armband, while his usual centre-back partner William Saliba is back amongst the replacements, with Cristhian Mosquera once again given the nod to start.

Christian Norgaard is named in a matchday squad for the first time after recovering from a knee issue and is on the bench, alongside another man awaiting his debut, Piero Hincapie.

After a shock 1-0 derby day loss to Alaves on Saturday, Athletic Club have made four changes to their line-up.

Those include summer signing Robert Navarro who is given a chance on the left with star man Nico Williams missing out with a groin injury. That sees Alex Berenguer pushed up front and Gorka Guruzeta dropping to the bench.

There are new full-backs with Andoni Gorosabel replacing Areso at right-back, while Adama Boiro comes in for Berchiche on the left, while in defensive midfield, Mikel Vesga is preferred to Inigo Ruiz de Galarreta.
