Fire crews are working to put out a large vegetation fire in Canterbury after a windy night across much of the country.
Twenty-five firefighters worked overnight to put out any flare up at the 38-hectare blaze in Southbridge near the Rakaia River.
An orange strong wind warning remains for Wairarapa and the Tararua District, while an orange heavy rain warning is in place for the Tararua Range.
Remutaka Hill Road (SH2), which links Wellington to Wairarapa, reopened overnight after being closed due to strong winds.
MetService is also warning of heavy swells along the Kāpiti-Porirua coast, from Ōtaki to Cape Terawhiti.
Further south, snow could fall on Crown Range Road and Milford Roads (SH94) from Thursday morning. The road snowfall warning extends to Porters Pass (SH73) from Thursday evening into Friday morning.
