Dozens of people have lost their belongings and the stability of a home in the devastating Middle Sackville fire.

Several fundraisers have been set up in response to the three-alarm blaze that forced 180 people to flee after it broke out on Monday morning. In the battle against the flames, firefighters said they could not save the roof, causing structural damage to the building.

This means people can’t even get necessities from their units because it is compromised. Families from 43 of the building’s 64 units have registered with the Red Cross, and the evacuation centre at the Springfield Lake Recreation Centre.

However, many other friends and family members are using GoFundMe to help elevate their stories and reach out to the generous community.

One of the people impacted is Caitlin Pelrine and her 3-year-old daughter, Logan. According to Madison Lunn, the fundraiser’s organizer, Pelrine is a single mother who has “poured everything” into providing her daughter with the best life.

The pair lost everything in the fire, it details.

“They now face the heartbreaking reality of starting over with nothing,” Lunn writes. “This fundraiser is a way for us, as a community, to give back and support them in their time of need. Donations will go toward clothes, food, and other essentials as they work to rebuild.”

Jay Crossley explained in a fundraiser for his father, John, that the family didn’t have insurance.

“This is such a devastating situation and anything could help,” he wrote.

John, his wife and stepchildren are without a home, the fundraiser details.

It isn’t just people who were impacted by the blaze. Pets, like Adam and Abbi’s cat is suffering from smoke inhalation, a friend of the couple, Hannah Steele writes.

According to the fundraiser, the cat requires urgent veterinary care and coupled with basic essentials like clothes and meals, Adam and Abbi are overwhelmed.

“Your kindness will help Adam, Abbi, and their cat find hope and stability again after such a heartbreaking setback,” their friend wrote.

The road ahead for the survivors of the fire is expected to be long, with many unknowns ahead. That’s why Bailee Edgercombe is fundraising for his friends who “experienced the unimaginable.”

The pair and their baby are safe, but are facing expenses and difficulties ahead.

Similarly, Shivam Pandey is hoping people will come together for his colleague Monika Mann. According to that GoFundMe post, the blaze destroyed everything she owned.

“She is now starting from scratch and needs our help to get back on her feet. This GoFundMe will go directly toward helping her secure housing, replace basic necessities, and begin rebuilding her life,” Pandey wrote.
