A search and rescue operation will resume this morning in a bid to find the pilot of a light plane after a crash in the state’s south yesterday.
The pilot, aged in his 60s, took off at 11am yesterday from Bankstown Airport and flew to Mallacoota in Victoria before turning back and disappearing over Budawang National Park.
There were no passengers in the aircraft, which came from Bankstown Flying School.

Emergency services were called to Budawang National Park – about 25km north of Batemans Bay – at around 4.30pm after an aircraft emergency location transmitter was activated.
Police believe the pilot was heading back to the airport when the crash happened.Â
Police launched a multi-agency search, with assistance from Australian Maritime Safety Authority, NSW Toll Ambulance Helicopter, Fire and Rescue NSW, Rural Fire Service and NSW Ambulance.
The crash site was located from the air at around 5.30pm.
Due to the terrain and weather conditions, emergency services were unable to access the crash site by vehicle or on foot.
The search resumed around 7am this morning.
