The West Shore RCMP has released new information, including the arrest of a man in connection to a sexual assault investigation involving a child that allegedly occurred earlier this week.
The sexual assault is alleged to have happened on Monday, Sept. 15, between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at Eagle View Elementary, located at 97 Talcott Rd. in View Royal.
West Shore RCMP reported that the child, a girl, was playing in the schoolyard when an unknown man allegedly came up to her, exposed himself, then touched her in a sexual manner.
“The child was able to leave the area safely and was physically unharmed,” states RCMP.
By Wednesday evening, police had arrested a 21-year-old man in connection to the sexual assault investigation.
Police say the suspect is currently in custody and will appear in court Thursday.
Selena Roberts, and her husband Jason Partridge, live in a condominium complex next to the school property, along with their two young sons who also attend Eagle View Elementary School.
She said she is relieved to hear that a suspect was arrested so quickly.
“I think everyone in the community and the neighbourhood feels much safer. And big thanks to the RCMP for having such quick action on this. Because as every hour has gone on this has been out there, and it hasn’t been long at all, it still felt very terrifying for all of us. As parents, and community members,” Roberts said.
West Shore RCMP is asking the public to contact them if they have any information on this particular crime.
“No similar reports of this nature have been received,” said Mounties on Thursday.
“Investigators have canvassed the area for witnesses and video surveillance, however, if you have information regarding this specific crime and have not yet spoken to police, please call West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.”
