If you have been anticipating what Martin Scorsese has in store for his fans, the wait is finally over. According to Deadline, the Oscar-winning director is gearing up for an adaptation of a novel, What Happens at Night, for which he has nabbed the best of the talent: Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence.

Penned by Peter Cameron, What Happens at Night is a ghost story at its core, exploring the journey of an American couple who travels to a strange, snowy European city to adopt a baby. The synopsis further reads:

“It’s a difficult journey that leaves the wife, who is struggling with cancer, desperately weak, and her husband worries that her illness will prevent the orphanage from releasing their child. On arrival, the couple checks into the cavernous and eerily deserted Borgarfjaroasysla Grand Imperial Hotel, where the bar is always open and the lobby populated with an enigmatic cast of characters ranging from an ancient, flamboyant chanteuse to a debauched businessman to an enigmatic faith healer. Nothing is as it seems in this baffling, frozen world, and the more the couple struggles to claim their baby, the less they seem to know about their marriage, themselves, and life itself.”

Apple Original Films is in discussions to produce the film with Studiocanal.

Leonardo is already riding high on acclaim following rave reviews for his Paul Thomas Anderson-directed action thriller One Battle After Another. This will mark the seventh collaboration between DiCaprio and Scorsese.

As for Lawrence, who will be working with Scorsese for the first time, there is no telling where her psychological dark comedy-drama Die My Love will take her. Early reviews have been overwhelmingly favourable, propelling the film towards Oscar buzz.
