Poland’s border guard said on Friday that two Russian fighter jets had violated the safety zone of a Polish state-owned drilling platform in the Baltic Sea – marking Russia’s second breach of aviation rules in less than 24 hours.
Posting on X, the maritime division of the Polish border guard reported that the jets had performed a low-altitude pass over the Petrobaltic oil and gas platform north of Poland’s Baltic coast.

“Polish security services are constantly monitoring the situation within critical maritime infrastructure, even outside Polish territorial waters,” they added.
As per TVP World, the incident did not constitute a violation of Polish airspace – although it was a breach of Poland’s exclusive economic zone.
The border guard notified Poland’s armed forces, who will continue to monitor the situation.
The incident came just hours after three MiG-31 Russian fighter aircraft violated Estonian airspace on Friday morning – entering over the Gulf of Finland and remaining for roughly 12 minutes before Italian jets were scrambled to intercept them.
Russian missiles intended for Ukraine have gone astray on several occasions since its full-scale invasion began, but the scale and frequency of Russia’s recent violations have sparked fears that Russia is testing NATO’s eastern defenses.
On Sept. 10, at least 19 Russian drones entered Polish airspace, where they remained for seven hours before retreating or being shot down by Poland and its NATO allies.
