A pedestrian, aged in his 40s, has died following a collision with a car in Cork on Saturday.
The crash occurred between junction 11 and junction 12 northbound on the M8 motorway at Carrigane, Mitchelstown at around 9:15pm.
A pedestrian, a man aged in his 40s, was fatally injured as a result of the collision.
His body has since been removed to the mortuary in Cork University Hospital where an autopsy will be carried out.
The driver of the car, a man aged in his 20s, was uninjured.
The M8 motorway between junction 11 and junction 12 northbound is currently closed pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
Diversions are in place.
Gardaà are now appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaà are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area at the time of the collision to make this footage available to GardaÃ.
