At least two people have been killed and five others have been injured in a Sunday morning shooting in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said officers were on the scene at 6900 Shore Terrace at around 2:30 a.m.
Six men and one woman were shot, NBC affiliate WTHR reported. Two of them were killed and three of them are in critical condition.
Police did not share any details about the incident, which happened in a parking lot, according to WTHR.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is asking the public to avoid the area.
This shooting comes hours after another incident where a 34-year-old man armed with a gun threatened employees at a Mcdonalds on 2425 E 38th Street. Officers responded to the scene at around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and confronted the suspect, which led to an officer-involved shooting, according to police. The suspect was not struck by the gunfire.
“The suspect fled from the business, and officers pursued him down a nearby alley. He was safely taken into custody near 39th Street and Tacoma Avenue,” police said.
One uninvolved vehicle was struck by gunfire, police said, but “no uninvolved community members were injured” in the incident. Police said that there was no ongoing threat to the community.
In a statement, Chief Chris Bailey said the suspect fired a shot in the direction of two officers, but “their training brought the situation to a safe resolution.”
Bailey also commented on the overnight shooting incidents as a whole, saying he understands “how nights like this can shake our sense of safety.”
“My heart is heavy after the violence the Indianapolis community experienced over the last 24 hours,” he said. “Our thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and all who were impacted by the violence.”
Bailey urged anyone with information on the overnight incidents to contact IMPD.
