The man – understood to be in his early 40s – suffered critical injuries when the motorbike he was competing on spun out of control.
The incident occurred at Sunday lunchtime during a competition at the popular Vernon Mount motocross track off Cork’s Kinsale Road.
Emergency personnel immediately went to the assistance of the biker.
He was unresponsive and, despite the best efforts of track medical personnel and paramedics, his condition could not be stabilised.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene before he could be taken to Cork University Hospital (CUH).
It is believed he suffered critical head and neck injuries in the incident.
The man’s body will be removed to the morgue at CUH.
The Office of the State Pathologist and the Cork Coroner have been informed.
A full post mortem examination will be conducted at CUH with the findings to be supplied to the coroner.
The incident is being treated as a tragic accident.
It is understood the man is from the south Munster area but he will not be named until all relatives have been informed.
It is the second death of a motorcyclist in 24 hours.
A man in his 70s died in Cahir, Co Tipperary, when the motorbike he was riding was in collision with a van on the N24 shortly after 11am on Sunday.
The road remains closed to facilitate a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators with local diversions in place.
Gardaà are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 10.45am and 11.15am this morning, are asked to make this footage available to investigating GardaÃ.

A total of 124 people have died on Irish roads so far this year.
Of those deaths, 41 have involved motorcyclists, pillion passengers, pedal cyclists and e-scooter users.
It is the second motorsport tragedy to hit Cork in the space of four months.
Last May, a 13 year old girl died during an autograss racing event in west Cork.
