A “Power” prequel exploring the origin story of Ghost and Tommy has received an 18-episode order at Starz.

The spinoff, aptly titled “Power: Origins,” was announced to be in development in March 2024. “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” star MeKai Curtis will reprise his role of Kanan Stark in “Origins,” while casting for Ghost and Tommy (played by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora in the original “Power”) is yet to be announced.

The first season of “Origins” is described by Starz as a “fun, rambunctious exploration of a new time period in the ‘Power’ franchise” that will “highlight the unbridled audacity of young men on the rise, determined to become legends in the game.”

Sascha Penn (“Power Book III: Raising Kanan”) will serve as the showrunner, writer and executive producer for “Origins,” which comes from Lionsgate TV. “I’m excited to continue to explore the origin stories of the ‘Power’ universe’s founding fathers,” Penn said in a statement. “Ghost and Tommy’s backstories have fueled years of constant fascination and speculation among fans, and I’m thrilled to be able to answer some long-held questions and share new layers of the story that viewers won’t see coming.”

“Origins” is the fourth spinoff in the “Power” universe, joining the original series, “Power Book II: Ghost,” “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” (which aired its final season in the spring) and “Power Book IV: Force” (which will air its final season in the fall).

“Our fans have been asking for Ghost and Tommy’s origins story since we first met them in ‘Power’ — and with the launch of this series, we’re delivering in a big way,” said Kathryn Busby, president of original programming for Starz. “This marks an electrifying new chapter in the franchise’s evolution as we dive deep into the legacy of these iconic characters and the explosive moments that shaped their path.”

“Power” creator and original showrunner Courtney A. Kemp also executive produces through her banner, End of Episode. Other executive producers include Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson via his G-Unit Film and Television, Mark Canton through Canton Entertainment. Chris Selak and Pete Chatmon are also EPs.
