Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the fatal road traffic collision on the N17 at Milltown on Friday September 19th.
The collision, involving a car and a van, occurred at Drum shortly after 8 a.m.. The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
He has been named locally as Lorcan Kelly (23) from Cloonmoyle, Tuam, Galway in County Galway. Lorcan was currently doing an Apprenticeship.
In a heartbreaking tribute his aunt Grace Fallon wrote ‘’Lorkey our hearts are broken but we have a lot of great memories from Cloonmoyle which will stay with us forever. You have 3 grandparents up there to mind ya’’.
Staff and students at his former Primary school at Miltown NS also paid tribute. They said ‘’We all have such fond memories of Lorcan during his time with us in Miltown NS and his loss seems unfathomable. May he rest in peace’’.
While another wrote ‘’He was a skilled, hard working young man, having learned from the best. His good nature and charm will be sadly missed. We hold very fond memories of Lorcan, may he rest in peace’’.
He is survived by his Mother Sinéad, father Enda, brothers Conor and Cathal, grandfather Patrick, girlfriend Martyna.
His remains will repose at Glynn’s Funeral Home, High St. Tuam on Monday (Sept 22) from 5.00pm to 8.00 pm.
His Funeral will arrive at The Cathedral of the Assumption Tuam on Tuesday (Sept 23) for Funeral Mass at 12.00 noon. Burial afterwards in Kilclooney cemetery, Milltown.
The driver of the van, a man in his 50s, was airlifted to UHG for treatment of serious injuries.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 7.45 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. on Friday are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
