Respects were paid to former Liverpool FC Women manager Matt Beard at today’s Premier League 2 match at the Academy.

The club is mourning the sudden passing of Beard, who enjoyed two spells in charge of the Reds’ women’s team and led them to back-to-back Women’s Super League titles in 2013 and 2014.

He began his second tenure in 2021 and returned the team to its current top-flight status in the WSL by winning the Women’s Championship at the first attempt.

Following the postponement of Liverpool’s WSL fixture against Aston Villa today, the U21s’ clash with Manchester United included a number of tributes.

A minute’s silence was observed in Kirkby ahead of the game and players wore black armbands in memory of Matt.
