The close-knit community of the Cooley peninsula is in mourning following the death of a local man in a workplace accident in Dundalk on Tuesday morning.

The 40-year-old father-of-three is understood to have been operating machinery when the horrific accident happened around 11am.

The Health and Safety Authority is investigating the accident at EK Fuels, Lisdoo, Armagh Road.

A garda spokesperson confirmed that gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the tragic accident .

The victim, who is from a well-known north Louth family, is survived by his heart-broken wife, three daughters, parents, brother and two sisters and a large circle of relatives and friends.
