Lebanese President Joseph Aoun called at the UN General Assembly for Israel’s complete withdrawal from all Lebanese territory and for the “release of Lebanese hostages.” Aoun emphasized that since the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah took effect on November 27, 2024 – which was accepted with US and French support – Lebanon is committed to liberating all its lands and maintaining exclusive sovereignty. He called for an immediate halt to “Israeli aggression” and UN assistance in rebuilding Lebanon following IDF operations, as well as ending the destruction in the Gaza Strip and providing aid for the unprecedented displaced persons crisis in his country.
