The bizarre theft of two large industrial sheds from a rural property has shocked and amused Aussies around the country. The 100m² structures were stolen from land near Gavins Road in The Plains in Western Australia’s southwest sometime between August 28 and September 1, according to the state’s police force.
The sheds were cut from their footings with an angle grinder, dismantled at the site and removed, officers alleged online this week while issuing a callout for anyone with information about the incident to contact authorities.
“Witnesses reported seeing up to four people at the location, using two 4×4 dual-cab utilities with flatbed trailers,” South West District Police explained. Speaking to Yahoo News, a spokesperson for the WA Police Force confirmed “the investigation remains ongoing at this time”.
Shocked Aussies poke fun at ‘ballsy’ shed theft
A photo of the bare, sandy soil where the sheds once stood and the minimal aluminium debris left behind on the remote property has stunned thousands of Aussies, with social media users finding it difficult to resist poking fun at the “ballsy” theft.
“I’ve seen it all now,” one man simply said. “Imagine ringing the boss to tell them someone robbed the shed and they ask you what got stolen,” another commented.
“What in the Amish robbery did I just read,” a third person asked.
Several people said they’ve heard of ex-wives “taking half the house but the shed is a whole new level”, while others pointed out the old saying “if it’s not bolted down, it will get nicked” apparently no longer applies.
“Well, that has changed to ‘They will take it even if it is bolted down’!”
Anyone who can identify those involved has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au. Reports can remain anonymous.
