Two ICE detainees were killed and one person was injured at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Dallas, sources say.
DALLAS — Two ICE detainees were killed and one person was injured at a Dallas ICE facility Wednesday morning and one shooter is dead, police sources tell WFAA.
Police responded to a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office shortly before 7 a.m. Wednesday at 8101 North Stemmons Freeway in Dallas, off Interstate 35E. Sources told WFAA that responding police were searching for a possible sniper or multiple shooters, and then one shooter was found dead on the roof of a nearby building.
It remains unclear if there were any other shooters involved in the incident.Â
Sources told WFAA that the shooting happened during the loading or unloading of a bus of detainees. Two of the detainees were killed in the shooting, police sources said, and one other person was injured. More details about the victims were not immediately available.Â
No law enforcement agents were injured in the shooting, according to Dallas police sources and Todd Lyons, acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.Â
There is still a massive police presence at the scene. The Texas Department of Transportation cameras in the area showed dozens of police and emergency vehicles along the access road off I-35E.Â
As a result of the incident, parts of I-35E were shut down in both directions while officials responded to the scene. The northbound lane reopened around 8 a.m., according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
Dallas police confirmed in a statement that a suspect shot at the facility and one person died at the scene. Two people were taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds, according to the statement. The suspect is dead, police confirmed.Â
The police statement did not include more details, although police and city officials were planning to hold a news conference Wednesday morning at 9.
In a statement, U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem confirmed there was a shooting at a Dallas ICE facility.Â
“Details are still emerging but we can confirm there were multiple injuries and fatalities,” Noem said. “The shooter is deceased by a self-inflicted gun shot wound. While we don’t know motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them. It must stop. Please pray for the victims and their families.”
Vice President JD Vance posted a statement to social media Wednesday morning.Â
“The obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop,” Vance wrote. “I’m praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families.”
This is a developing story. Check back with WFAA for more updates.
