Emergency service workers from fire stations in central Swindon, Westlea, Stratton, Devizes, Marlborough, Ramsbury, and Malmesbury responded to 999 calls reporting explosions heard at 7.31pm on Wednesday evening.

The firefighters are dealing with a large warehouse fire on the Groundwell Industrial Estate in Swindon.

A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We currently have 12 fire engines and specialist vehicles including an aerial ladder platform and water carriers on the scene.

Shocked residents felt their homes shake because of the blasts and a large plume of smoke is billowing into the evening sky.

Police have closed nearby roads and advised anyone living in the area to close their doors and windows.
