SUNS COULD BE JAMMARA’S ‘ONLY HOPE’

If it’s not Gold Coast, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan mightn’t have an AFL home in 2026.

Ugle-Hagan is set to depart the Western Bulldogs for a fresh start elsewhere despite being contracted for next season, with the Suns emerging as a potential suitor.

Nine’s Tom Morris reports Gold Coast has been assessing the troubled 23-year old, who didn’t feature at AFL level this year, for several weeks now and he appeals to coach Damien Hardwick.

But the Suns are reportedly the only team currently looking at the forward, so it may be Gold Coast or no lifeline for Ugle-Hagan in a trade that would only cost Gold Coast a late pick.

“Gold Coast is taking a serious look at Jamarra Ugle-Hagan,” Morris said on Nine News.

“Although it’s far from done, the Suns have been doing their due diligence for several weeks.

“We now know for sure Ugle-Hagan won’t be at the Dogs next year, no matter what.

“As far as I can tell, there are no other suitors. Which means Gold Coast could be his only hope of being on an AFL list and Ugle-Hagan’s career will hinge on whether the Suns decide to take the risk.

“Damien Hardwick is attracted to the very best of Ugle-Hagan, but the worst this year has been disastrous off the field.

“This is why the Dogs won’t stand in his way if the Suns offer a late draft pick for him.”

Herald Sun reporter Jon Ralph estimated the Dogs would get roughly Pick 70 back in a trade.

“They don’t mind, they want to move on from him,” Ralph said on Fox Footy’s Midweek Tackle.

“Unless it becomes a bidding war with five cubs, but I don’t think there’s anywhere near five clubs interested. It might well be Gold Coast is the only club interested.”

While Ugle-Hagan wouldn’t appear to be the most obvious fit at the Suns given their depth of key forwards, Ralph suggested he was good insurance for Jed Walter.

Walter finished this season outside the AFL team and is uncontracted beyond 2026, though AFL Media revealed the Suns recently tabled an extension to the 20-year old.

“Jed Walter only has one more year on his deal, there’s talk about interest back in West Coast. I don’t think he wants to get back there,” Ralph said.

“But if all of a sudden he sits on the sidelines for another year, I think every other club including Carlton has a real crack at Walter.

“That’s a complicating factor.”

CROWS EYEING STEVENS

Adelaide is eyeing second-year Geelong midfielder George Stevens after a lack a senior opportunities in Chris Scott’s team, according to Herald Sun’s Scott Gullan.

Stevens has managed only two AFL games for the grand finalists this season — including polling one Brownlow vote on debut — despite a strong VFL campaign, where he averaged 27 disposals and six tackles.

And the Crows, who are believed to be looking to beef up their midfield, could make a play for the 20-year old South Warrnambool product.

“He’s a ball magnet in the VFL. It’s a classic case, he’s in the best team in the comp and he’s the next midfielder up and not getting much of a go,” Gullan said on Fox Footy’s Midweek Tackle.

“Opposition clubs are watching the VFL going: ‘He’s a very good player, he gets mid-20s (disposals) every week, he’s a bull.’

“The Adelaide Crows want to strengthen their midfield, that’s clearly their issue, and this kid has a lot of talent.

“The Cats don’t want him to go, but I think they know he’s one of those ones who’s going to get too good an offer.

“With good will, I reckon you might see him at Adelaide.”
