There were frightening scenes at a Wexford housing estate in the early hours of Wednesday morning, as a man covered in blood was loaded into the back of an ambulance and rushed to Wexford General Hospital for treatment.

The man, aged in his 30s, had his face slashed and suffered a nasty stab wound to his hand. While a little groggy, he is believed to have been upright and speaking with paramedics as he was being put into the back of the ambulance at Lus Mór on Whiterock Hill.

The man’s injuries are said to have been “non-life-threatening” and he is expected to make a full recovery.

Images depicting the man’s bloody face and wounds from his hospital bed were later reportedly shared online.

His attacker had long fled the scene by the time emergency services arrived.

It is understood that an apparent person of interest is well-known to gardaí, with a string of previous convictions.

One theory is that this attack may have arisen from a previous feud which was responsible for a wave of violence on Wexford’s streets.

Wexford Gardaí say that they are carrying out inquiries in relation to the incident, but no arrests have been made at this stage.

An Garda Síochána has issued an appeal to anyone with information in relation to this incident or to anyone in the area at the time who may have video footage (including dash-cam footage) to contact Wexford Garda station on 053 916 5200 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111.
