Oh Hyeon-gyu finally got his reward at Ibrox after a relentless performance for Genk against Rangers in the Europa League.
The former Celtic striker struck in the second half to silence the home crowd, capping a night where persistence paid off despite a string of earlier misses. His goal currently has Genk leading 1-0 in Glasgow.
The South Korean forward was at the heart of everything Genk did in attack. He has racked up seven shots over the 90 minutes already, four of them wayward, and endured the frustration of seeing Jack Butland deny him twice. The Rangers keeper’s best stop came from the penalty spot, diving low to his right to push away Oh’s effort after a clumsy challenge in the box.
But the 24-year-old didn’t let that setback define his night. Continuing to press Rangers’ back line, he kept getting into the right areas, and his perseverance was eventually rewarded. Meeting a cross inside the area, Oh showed composure to steer his finish home and give the Belgians a vital breakthrough on the road.

For Rangers, it was a reminder of the dangers posed by a striker who once called Glasgow home. Oh may not have become a regular starter during his Celtic spell, but his strength, movement and eye for goal were always clear.
On his return to the city, he showed just how much he has grown since moving to Belgium.

Butland, who had kept Rangers alive with his penalty save, could do little about the decisive strike. The home defence had been warned all evening, and once the chance fell Oh’s way, he was never going to let it slip again.
With the game still at 1-0 to Genk, the game remains in the balance. But no matter how it ends, Oh has already made his mark at Ibrox, showing pace, power and persistence, qualities Celtic supporters know well.
