AT&T reports 911 service ‘operating normally’ across Mississippi, Louisiana

  • September 26, 2025

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – After an outage most of the afternoon, officials with AT&T say 911 lines are operating “normally” across Mississippi and Alabama.

Service across three states was interrupted earlier on Thursday after Gov. Tate Reeves said fiber wires were cut.

Additional details on that cut were not known.

AT&T provided the following statement: “911 service is operating normally across affected areas in Louisiana and Mississippi following a disruption earlier today. We understand how important these services are and apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”

4:45 p.m.

Brookhaven and Lincoln County Emergency Management reports 911 lines are “back operational at this time.”

4:15 p.m.

Madison Police: “911 lines have been repaired and tested.”

2:33 p.m.

Ridgeland Police Department reports 911 lines are working.

911 lines are down across the state, and agencies are taking to social media to post alternate numbers for people to call when seeking help.

“Attention: 911 and administration lines are currently down statewide. This has impacted calls and emergency responses. Officials are working with AT&T to identify and correct the problem,” Hinds County Sheriff/Jackson Police Chief Tyree Jones said. “Will continue to update and provide a contingency plan.”

In case of emergency, residents in Jackson and Hinds County can call the following numbers:

Gov. Tate Reeves also provided an update via social media.

He says the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency has received reports from AT&T that the company has experienced a “series of fiber cuts, which are impacting their network in three states.”

“The state of Mississippi is in close contact with AT&T. AT&T crews are working to assess the damage and restore service as quickly as possible,” he wrote. “If you need to report an emergency and are unable to contact 911, please contact your local law enforcement agency directly.”

ATT provided an updated statement after 4 p.m. on Thursday:

“Our teams have dispatched and are working as quickly as possible to repair multiple fiber cuts, affecting 9-1-1 service for some customers in Louisiana and Mississippi. We understand how important these services are and appreciate the patience of our customers.”
