South Korean Troops Fire Warning Shots After North Korean Ship Crosses Border

South Korean troops fired warning shots early Friday after a North Korean merchant vessel crossed the maritime border dividing the peninsula, the Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

The ship breached the Northern Limit Line in waters northwest of Baengnyeong Island around 5 a.m. Friday, according to a message sent to reporters. It retreated after verbal warnings were issued, followed by warning shots, the JCS said.
