The regulator has warned that some models of popular tumble dryers are prone to a fire hazard and should not be used

Comreg has warned households with certain models of Hoover, Candy and Haier tumble dryers to stop using the devices immediately as they post a fire risk.

“A safety hazard has been identified with certain Haier, Candy and Hoover heat pump tumble dryers,” the regulator said in a written notice.

”The product presents a risk of fire due to manufacturing variations, as it is possible for an internal short circuit to occur during use, causing the product to ignite.

“If you are the owner of an affected product, stop using it immediately and contact Haier to arrange for a modification to take place.”

Owners can check whether they have an affected product by checking the 16-digit serial number on their machine and entering it at the following website: https://productsafety.haier.co.uk.

“We have recently identified a variability in our production of built-in tumble dryers that, on rare occasions, can generate an internal short circuit to occur,” said a statement from the manufacturer.

”In certain circumstances and under certain conditions, this short circuiting may result in the machine igniting.”
