A 30-year-old man is accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman after posing as a rideshare driver in Vaughan.
York Regional Police said a woman was waiting for a ride in the area of Major Mackenzie Drive West and Jane Street shortly after 3 a.m. on Monday when a man approached her.
He allegedly told the woman during their conversation that he was a rideshare driver and then offered to drive her home.
“After they entered his vehicle, he drove to a parking lot on Major Mackenzie Drive West where he stopped and sexually assaulted her,” police allege.
Shortly after, the man allegedly threatened her, forced her out of the vehicle and drove away.
After assisting the victim, officers who responded to her call searched the area and located the suspect vehicle as well as the driver, police said.
He was arrested without incident and in a news release on Friday, police identified him as 30-year-old Mohammad Shaqueel Zolmay.
He has been charged with kidnapping, sexual assault and uttering threats.
Police have also released his photo, as they believe there are other victims who have not come forward.
They are asking any other victims or anyone with information to contact investigators at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7071 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
