Fall is making its presence felt across Vancouver Island, and it’s coming in wet.
An Environment Canada rainfall warning is in effect for the northwest tip of Vancouver Island, where communities near Zeballos and Tahsis could see up to 100 millimetres of rain from this afternoon through Saturday morning.
The culprit is a strong Pacific storm tracking off Haida-Gwaii Islands which will bring steady downpours to the area for the better part of Friday before easing off early on Saturday.
The heavy rain accumulations could result in flash floods, pooling water on roads, and localized flooding in low-lying areas.
People are urged to keep an eye out for washouts above rivers, creeks, and culverts.
For those in Greater Victoria, the weekend sky is not as concerning, though the sunny streaks are fast fading.
Mostly cloudy skies are expected today, with scattered showers possible at 30% reaching a high of 16°C.
Tomorrow night will be mostly cloudy as well, with showers possible overnight up to 40%, dipping to 12°C.
Saturday and Sunday bring in the classic fall days: mostly cloudy skies, scattered showers, and highs reaching up to 17°C on Saturday and 15°C on Sunday.
Overnight lows will hover around 11°C.
And here’s a little seasonal milestone to note, tonight will mark the last 7 p.m. sunset of 2025. From here on, the days grow shorter and darker as we settle into the heart of autumn.
With that said, not matter where you’re located on Vancouver Island, grab your umbrella, put on the rain jacket, and start enjoying the fall weather to come!
